Happy Halloween!!

The month to celebrate black cats under full moons and witches on broomsticks is finally here! And with it comes the cool weather. This is a great time of year! The days are pleasant and sunny and the nights are cool and cozy. It’s a great time to save a little extra on your energy bills as well. Just a few short reminders to make sure that this month is as wonderful as possible with no need to call the fix-it man.

#1- Check and change (if necessary) your furnace filter. For a quick how-to visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJM0ctipors&feature=fvwrel

#2- If the weather allows, keep your windows open. In most areas it’s getting cool enough now that your home will actually stay cooler if you leave your windows open during the day. This will keep the home cool without the need to turn on the AC.

#3- Use a ceiling fan. Ceiling fans are a great way to conserve energy. Just having the air blow on your skin makes your body feel a couple degrees cooler then it actually is.  To run your fan 24/7 for a month will probably only cost you about $4.

#4-Use more blankets at night, when the temperature starts to drop, rather then turning the temperature up on your furnace. Did you know that you will actually fall a sleep easier at a cooler temperature?

#5- Get your Heating system checked! It seems like the things we need the most are usually the things that tend to break. The last thing you want is for you and your family to freeze on a cold night because the furnace wont turn on. Getting it checked before it is needed frequently will help you to avoid a desperate call to the fix-it man.

We hope these 5 simple tips will help lower your energy costs and make your fall that much more wonderful.

Happy Halloween!!
