Winter isn’t just coming—it’s here. And during the winter, you might notice that your energy bills rise surprisingly high. What can you do about it? Well, quite a bit! But if you’re not about to drop a few grand on a new ENERGY STAR appliance, you can follow these cost-free tips and start saving energy.
- Set your thermostat to 68° degrees and turn it down by 5° at night or when you’re leaving the house. Maybe not always viable with small children, and if it’s too cold, definitely turn it up a bit…but consider adjusting to the lower temperatures. At night, since you’re asleep and under the covers, you shouldn’t feel the cold as much.
- Set your water heater lower. We recommend 120°, or “low”. Adjusting temperature by just 10° can save you up to 5% on your heating costs.
